Drew Hemment, Matjaz Vidmar, Miriam Walsh, Keili Koppel

ABSTRACT

In this interim project report, we showcase a series of transformational experiences combining art and AI to address the pressing needs of the creative community, as well as illuminate the wider societal engagement with emerging AI technology. Using our bespoke Open prototyping methodology, we are bringing together pioneering festivals and artists with leading academic thinkers to support astonishing new forms of artistic experience and pandemic-proof routes to audiences for a world recovering from COVID-19. Working with partners at the Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Science Festival, Ars Electronica, Scottish AI Alliance, Edinburgh International Culture Summit, Alan Turing Institute and Edinburgh Futures Institute, we developed and delivered innovative solutions for hybrid cultural programme design, empowering artists to use AI tools and conduct participatory research and impactful learning through wrap-around engagement activities.
